Pretty much this. ^

I mean, they can't just let series like Naruto...or One Piece have hundreds of episodes and get away with it. Damn, even The Young And The Restless might be in danger.

Super is one of Toei's biggest money makers right now, Dragon Ball is extremely lucrative, hence how it stayed popular even when GT ended in 97 I believe. It has better selling video games that the likes of Naruto, One Piece and Bleach and did so when Dragon Ball wasn't even running anymore. So yeah I reckon it'll continue on for a long while yet.

What if Jiren turns out not to be the mortal stronger than a God, but a mortal equal to one?

That would still leave a perfect opponent for Goku once he surpasses Beerus. I'd wager that the mortal is in one of the 4 universes. I have a hunch that it's Geene's.

There's no reason not to continue it. These past few years of dragon ball have been so successful and the franchise is as popular as ever so they'd be missing out more money.

There's still plenty of stuff to explore but we don't know if it will be in the form of a movie, new saga, or side story.

Nothing's been said about whether this is the last saga though so we just have to wait. It definitely has the scale to be the finale of the series though

The problem with Toriyama's writing since the saiyan saga is he rushes t maximise the stakes, he expands upon his own lore and engages in world building but he somehow manages to shrink his own universe by doing so. The saiyan saga brought us opponents from outside Earth but then in the next saga he leapt to "Freeza is the strongest in the universe!" Why? Why not have him the strongest in the galaxy? Leaving more room for future villains elsewhere.

We now have been given 12 universes and have very quickly moved to a tournament between the strongest of 8 of these universes and "one universe has a mortal stronger than gods!" ruling out the possibility of multiple mortals across these universes posing this threat. In the process we also got things like "universe 7 has 28 inhabited planets." So we have all of these new universes but ironically the size and possibility presented by the home universe has been nerfed.

So where do you go next? Bring back the other 6 universes to find that there's one opponent there worth fighting? An evil angel? Quite limited in choices as Goku and Vegeta are both already stronger than 99.9% of the mortals who have been introduced the moment they went ssjg/b.

Idk if I would say 80 episodes later is very quickly going from 12 universes being introduced to having a tournament between 6 of them. Especially since the first tournament was between two universes without nearly as much at stake and now what like 60 episodes later it's between 6 universes. I think we've had plenty of build up to this point

Now that I think about it those other universes weren't in the tournament because they have higher mortal ratings meaning they're more developed. So chances are there wouldn't be much conflict going on in those universes. So idk how anything exciting can come out of exploring those universes

It's telling that universes with actual development don't make the cut for Super. I guess world-building has never been a strongsuit for dragonball.

So much of the lore and mythology has yet to be explored. I think that at least several more arcs could be afforded, provided the studio and Toriyama are willing to oblige.

And funnily enough, that never stopped them.

I think toriyama would be happy to do it since he said he was completely satisfied with how Super was made

There are other universes that haven't been explored plus the probably eventual showdown vs or with the Gods of Destruction, the Angels, Zeno, etc.

I genuinely think they could do 2 more big arcs. So I think universe 4,6,7 and 11 will be left in this tournament before being disrupted or stopped...they then will let them all to continue on....then I guess there could be an arc based around these universes being against the other 4-6 with higher mortality.

Then another arc with mortals vs angels/gods.... anything past that is just silly.
